Okay, it will actually take five minutes but head on over to Author Magazine for an interview with Rebecca Stead, whose When You Reach Me won this year's Newbery Medal. I was taken with her suggestions that kids are "readers who are rooting for the story to work," and that "you can introduce big ideas to kids."
She says she came to writing for kids because of an unfortunate event concerning her 4-year-old and her laptop but I suspect she would have gotten to the good stuff sooner or later!
