There's a short form you can fill out to share your ire with the Today Show over their decision to break with tradition and not air interviews with the Newbery and Caldecott medalists. To rub salt in the wound, they did make time to interview Snooki, whose contribution to things literary is in the category of fish wrappers and bird cage liners.

Hi Kirby, This is what I submitted to TODAY:
ReplyDelete"Your decision to break with a ten year tradition and not air interviews with the Newbery and Caldecott medalists is sad. It is becoming increasing obvious that the choice of interviewees is whomever will make the network more money by increasing viewership. And the only authors that are worth interviewing are celebrities, your own staff, and politicians or those with political commentary.
Obviously there is a short institutional memory at the network to book Snooki in a spot that has traditionally gone to interviews of the Newbery and Caldecott medalists.
Please remember that the children of TODAY are your viewing market tomorrow.
wow,Kate, that was fabulous! I didn't save a copy of what I sent but it ran along the same lines. Let's ask everyone we know to fill out a form!
ReplyDeleteI have already asked several people to consider sending a comment! Did you see what SCBWI Stephen Mooser sent? Check out Alice Pope's SCBWI blog (http://scbwi.blogspot.com)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in first grade I read the book, "Chanticleer and the Fox"(well, I didn't read it, teacher did). It had the Caldecott Medal on the cover. I knew what it meant at 6 years old and someday I wanted it on my book. I'm still working on it...maybe someday.
