My family knows I am a huge fan of Click and Clack, the Tappit Brothers. (One of my goals is to call them with a car problem someday). They recently did a show where a woman phoned in asking what kind of car to buy that wouldn't make her dog carsick. It never occurred to me that dogs could get carsick! Luckily, Winston the Wonder Dog doesn't.
Winston asleep in the back seat
We are just back from our first "family" roadtrip-- to a wedding in Salem, Oregon. Though Winston slept through most of the drive, he enjoyed the hotel stay and reading the paper in bed.
And he was a much better sport than our two-legged children about indulging their father's obsession with getting photographed on the steps of state capitols.
Trust me, Winston is in this picture
Of course, I can't resist any temptation to share puppy photos. But the reason I'm doing so is to put you in a animal frame of mind. There's a new blog in town, with thoughts about things bookish by twins who are members of a book club I visited a year or so ago. The sisters pose an intriguing question in their latest post -- what are some good books with animal main characters? I made some suggestions of my own (including Betty Birney's Humphrey books, and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH). Now the ball (or bone or catnip or whatever!) is in your court!
What titles would you add? Please share!

I would add Charlotte's Web and Animal Farm. While obvious (and at very opposite ends of the spectrum), they are both favorites of mine.
