Poetry Friday

I've never participated in Poetry Friday before -- aside from the time I posted a cinquain about picking blueberries in my backyard on the Miss Rumphius' Effect blog. But I believe there's no time like the present to begin.

Those of you who know me will find this nearly impossible to believe, but I've been grumpy and out of sorts lately. When either of the kids was in this kind of mood when they were little, I called them "Crankleberry Johnson," which is what Neil called me last night.

I decided I needed a little TLC and I found it, as I always do, in a poem given to me eons ago by my dear friend, Laura Kvasnosky:

God Says Yes to Me
by Kaylin Haught

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes

This is for anyone else out there who is feeling less than Christmasy and in need of a yes.

  1. Oh, I love that poem, and it was just what I needed. Been cranky and mopey all week. Thanks for yes, yes, yes.

  2. Thanks for that, Kirby. I have sent the poem to beloved people and read it over and over for myself.
